Jacqueline Howley -Parent Mentor for Champaign County since 2000. Mother of two grown children with special needs and grandmother to a child with Autism, Jacqueline loves to attend meetings to help families and educators collaborate to educate children with disabilities so they will thrive and succeed, reaching their greatest potential.
Dawn Millhouse - Parent Mentor for Centerville and Oakwood Schools. Dawn is a married mother of three. She graduated from the University of Dayton in 1992 with a Bachelor's in Communication and again in 1997 with a Masters in Secondary Education. She taught high school English, journalism, and speech/debate for two years for Lebanon Schools and has been a substitute teacher for Centerville School for 9 years. She has a daughter who is a senior pre-physical therapy major at the University of Dayton, a daughter who is a first-year at Bowling Green State University studying Inclusive Early Childhood Education, and a son who is a freshman at Centerville City Schools. Her second daughter has dyslexia and her son has Down syndrome.
Rachel Barnhart - Parent Mentor with the Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center, assisting families in four Southeast Ohio counties as they navigate the special education process. She and her husband are the parents of three exceptional boys who each have unique challenges ranging from moderate to severe, and they have inspired her passion for helping other families advocate for their children. She also serves as the Parent Mentors of Ohio Council Chair, and is a board member for the Perry County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Rachel worked her way through college as a Dispatcher with the Ohio State Highway Patrol. After completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources at Ohio University, Rachel went on to work for the Ohio Bureau of Worker’s Compensation until the birth of her youngest child. Navigating the process of autism diagnosis and obtaining services and support for her older two children led her to the Parent Mentor position at MVESC in 2014.
Dee Marks - A mother of two children with significant disabilities, has advocated for her children to be fully included in their school and community. Marks has a strong background in special education law and the ability to foster positive, collaborative communication. She is an Ohio Parent Mentor for Dublin City Schools, helping families navigate the special education process. Marks provides specialized education services for adolescent students in a mental health treatment center and previously taught at Ohio Dominican University.
Ashley Thoreen - Parent Mentor for Piqua City Schools, Autism Mom, Tattoo Artist, and wife to a very supportive husband. Ashley joined the Parent Mentor Project in 2018 to coach and help families understand their rights and responsibilities as a parent of a special needs child. She also sits on the Parent Mentor of Ohio Council and volunteers with her local county board of developmental disabilities. She specializes in training for both staff and families to ensure everyone is best prepared to support and educate all children with disabilities to grow to their fullest potential.
